Jazz Saxophone Etudes for Alto Saxophone, Volume 1 presents a thoughtfully curated collection of twelve melodic etudes specifically designed for the advancing jazz saxophonist. Spanning a dynamic range of tempos, the etudes traverse from a reflective ballad at 66 BPM to medium swing tempos of 126 to 168 BPM, culminating in lively bebop tempos that reach from 184 BPM to an impressive 264 BPM. Each etude provides a melodic framework for soloing, effectively incorporating authentic jazz vocabulary.

The individual etudes are not only engaging and enjoyable to perform but are also composed with a strong emphasis on idiomatic writing for the saxophone. The underlying chord progressions draw from well-known structures, including the blues, rhythm changes, and various popular “standard” 32-bar songs.
